Pauline Bear: August 15, 1928 – November 28, 2024 (Age 96 years)
Pauline was born at Swan Plain, Saskatchewan on September 15, 1928 to Mike and Anne Werbowesky and attended school at Swan Plain until Grade 8. She took from Grade 9 to part of Grade 12 at Zukunft School and then completed her Grade 12 at Bedford Road Collegiate in Saskatoon. She then went to Saskatoon Normal School in 1949-50 to become a teacher. She taught at Stratford, Luzan and Terpenia country schools, and substitute taught in Verigin School. In 1953 she married Ernest Bear. They had 5 children-Allan, Doug, Joanne, Barb and Carol. They farmed near Verigin together with Ernest’s brother Walter and his wife Betty who shared the same farmyard as they did. Ernest passed away in 1970. In 1974 she married Roy Bear and together they moved to Kamsack in 1989. In 2019 she sold her house and moved to Assiniboine Valley Estates and in the spring of 2024 she moved into Eaglestone Lodge. Pauline was active in her community, serving as the treasurer of Club 55 and president of the Kamsack Hospital Auxiliary and being an active part of the United Church Women. She loved life and does not want her service to be anything but a thanksgiving to God for the many blessings He has provided us. Pauline loved curling. She even curled in the Womens’ Northern Provincial Competition with Val Konkin, Mildred Trafananko, and Helen Konkin. They lost the final by about an inch but had fond memories to take home. She also loved gardening, knitting Afghans, putting jigsaw puzzles together in the winter after she quit curling, playing cards and looking after her grandchildren. Even after retiring, the farm was always something she remained interested in. When her children were young they enjoyed camping, fishing and road trips together. Pauline and Roy travelled to many places together including Europe, The Caribbean, New Zealand, Rio de Janeiro, Hawaii, Disneyland, Mexico and a cruise to Alaska. She had also been on a bus tour to Branson and on a trip to New York City for her 80th birthday. Education was very important to her and she always maintained an interest in her children’s and grandchildren’s education. She was a big inspiration to all of her children, showing them the value of hard work, remaining physically active, and providing for others. Pauline was predeceased by her parents, husbands Ernest in 1970 and Roy in 2001, her brothers Pete, Bill and Ernie, and her sister Mary Tataryn. She leaves to mourn her passing her children Allan, Doug(Susan), Joanne(Michael) Osatiuk, Barb(Randy) Trofimenkoff, Carol(Ken) McNeil, her grandchildren Ryan Bear, Shani Bear, Nicole Bear (Erik Jennings), Jackie Bucko (Jason), Chris Bear (Alanna Kazakoff), Danielle Robson(Darryl), Morgan Grywacheski (Dan), Brendan Osatiuk (Danielle), Kade Trofimenkoff, Aidan McNeil, Isaac McNeil, Lauren McNeil, 14 great-grandchildren, her sisters Evelyn and Minnie. In keeping with Pauline’s wishes there will be a family graveside ceremony in the spring of 2025. Flowers are gratefully declined, donations can be made to the Kamsack Hospital Auxiliary or to the Westminster United Church in Kamsack.
