The Wilkie Brewers, look to repeat their 2021 NSRBL success story.

WILKIE — The 2021 Wilkie Brewers season ended with a provincial championship. Fans are excited to see what the 2022 season will hold.

The Wilkie Brewers fired up another season of North Sask River Baseball League (NSRBL) action beginning May 24 against the North Battleford Beavers.

It ended up being a tough go for the home team, as the Beavers scored three in the second inning en route to a 6-3 win.

May 26, the Brewers hosted the Macklin Lakers in game two of a three-game home stand to start the year for Wilkie.

The bats were hot, and the balls were flying as Cody Wilgenbusch bashed a three-run home run in the bottom half of the first, but it was Damien Lantz’s RBI single in the fourth that ended up being the winner in a 9-8 slugfest victory for the home squad

Jake Mamer started for the Brew Crew but was shaky at best. He was relieved by Gavin Wourms, who shut the door and picked up the save.

The 1-1 Brewers next home game is May 29 as they host the St. Walburg Reds in a 5 p.m. showdown. The game is the closing act of Wilkie Minor Ball Day at the Wilkie Regional Park.
