Daryl Grant of Kerrobert wins Luseland annual golf tournament, out of 75 participants

Jim Smith of Wilkie was elected Royal Canadian Legion zone commander at a zone rally held in Wilkie. Representatives came from Landis, Macklin, Senlac, Unity and Wilkie.

Seventy-five golfers turned out for the Luseland annual golf tournament, which saw Daryl Grant of Kerrobert win the championship.

The Good Neighbour Pharmacy in Unity was celebrating its first anniversary and advertised three boxes of facial tissue for 97¢, tanning butter for $1.19 and “Lemon Up” shampoo for $1.09.

In the classifieds: “FOUND – Set of Binoculars in Unity on June 5. Owner can claim same by identifying and paying for advt.”

Also in the classifieds: “FEMALE HELP WANTED for Royal Bank of Canada at Macklin. Grade XII and typing.”

Wilkie Ford was pleased to announce they had won the 2001 President’s Award, presented to a Ford of Canada dealership for delivering high levels of customer service. Accepting the award from Ford Canada representatives from Wilkie Ford were: Brian Rotsey, service manager; Dianne Risling, controller; Rick King, parts manager; and Mike Adams, general manager.

Rack Petroleum in Unity held their official grand opening, with Mayor Peter Warwaruk cutting the ribbon.

Candace Beriault was crowned Rodeo Queen by outgoing 2001 Western Days queens Melissa Ganter and Amanda Lloyd.

A rainstorm which dropped as much as five inches north of Unity was dubbed a “million-dollar rain” after concerns of a drought year.

Kurt Elder, Jaylee MacDougall, Belinda Brudehl and Alan Belliveau won the water tug of war trophy in a Western Days event.
