Ed Keller of Leipzig was seeking the federal Liberal nomination for the Battlefords-Kindersley Constituency as parties prepared for the upcoming federal election.

The Doug Wankel rink of Elbow won the district mixed briar playoffs held in Unity. The Unity foursome was made up of Gordon Watt, Betty Housen, Gerry Watt and Mary Watt.

The Unity Ventures boys group successfully completed a 10-mile snowshoe trek in order to raise funds to assist with financing future activities. The trek helped raise $150.

20 Years Ago

Wilkie student Tarilie Pernitsky joined Unity teammates Heather Robertson, Cami and Cara Wooster as part of the Zone 7 bantam girls' hockey team roster competing in the Saskatchewan Winter Games being held in Humboldt. Unity figure skater Alix Tuffs was another local athlete ready to take part in the games.

Wilkie town council appointed Randy Elder as new fire chief for the Wilkie and District Fire Department.

Schools in the area celebrated Staff Appreciation Week. Teachers and support staff were honoured for the work they do.
