UNITY — The Christmas season is upon us and the year is fast coming to an end. The Unity Museum has been busy this fall and many projects are still in progress.
The new heated shop is now hooked up to heat. The name of this new building is Prairie Heritage Garage, and members say they hope to have a sign on the front soon. The shop guys have been busy working on different vehicles, building workbenches, shelves and such in the new shop. Come and check it out sometime.
The museum winter fundraiser –Sunday Pancake Brunches — has been going well. Volunteers wish to do something special for the people of Unity, so for Dec. 24 and 31, the museum holding two special brunches, with extra food items to celebrate the holidays. Cost will stay the same and Santa may even show up Dec. 24 before heading north to do his rounds. There will be posters and ads in the paper about this event.
Gift certificates are now available for the brunches. There are certificates for individuals for $12 and families for $25. Glenda Forbes oversees these certificates.
The veteran project is ongoing. If you wish to have your relative in the binder submit a picture of the veteran in uniform (preferred but not a must), their name, when they joined, regimental number, when discharged or passed away and their job in the military, if known. There are about 90 veterans so far in the binder, with several veterans from here missing. These can be dropped off at the office or mailed to UDHM Box 852, Unity, Sask. S0K4L0.
The museum office is not always manned during the winter but is not closed. Someone drops in occasionally to do projects or office work. If you call and need information, they will get back to you and meet you at the office. The men will also be at the new shop off and on during the winter doing projects.
Another event coming is the February Family Fun Day at the Museum, so keep an eye out for posters on this event.
The museum committee says, “Do you care to become a museum member – please do – we meet every third Wednesday at the Adanac Hall on the museum grounds at 7:30 p.m. Membership is $5 for three years or if you want to join or to just try us out for a year it is $2 for membership. We are always looking for members be they on the younger age or older age scale.
“For those who bequeathed a donation to the museum this year for a family member, we are very appreciative. A list of these honoured names is kept in the museum office.”
Committee members say they try to keep the museum viable for the Town of Unity and the future. Hope to see you at the Unity Museum over the winter.
