Unity archer sets Canadian record

UCHS students target top five in standings at archery competition.

UNITY — A Unity archer has set a new Canadian record, says Michelle Van De Meutter, coach of the Unity Composite High School archery team.

On March 2, the team travelled to Altario, Alta. for a tournament. The archers who attended were Grace Heck, Natalia Heck, Hunter Ireland, Tate Pool and Sebastian Lauinger.

Van de Meutter says Sebastian had an exceptional tournament and shot a 297 out of a total possible score of 300 to break the National Archery in the Schools Program Canadian record in the high school boys’ category. The old record was 296.

The rest of the team did well, too. Hunter Ireland shot a personal best of 232 which placed him fourth in the middle school boys’ category. Tate Pool also shot a personal best of 219 which placed him fifth in the same category.

The girls did not get any personal bests, however Grace Heck placed second and Natalia placed fifth in the high school girls’ category.

The team still has tournaments in Castor, Alta., provincials in Shaunavon and Canadians in Moose Jaw.
