Town of Luseland taking first glance at golf cart bylaw at next council meeting

Luseland Mayor Kathy Wurz is grateful for the efforts of Luseland Canada Day Committee and volunteers for a full slate of activity July 1.

LUSELAND — It’s been busy in Luseland this past month. The Luseland Credit Union Swimming Pool had its grand opening May 26. There is lots of training occurring at the pool this year, with Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross being offered so that a new crop of guards can become certified. The pool will also be hosting the Swim for Life instructor course from July 4 to 7. This is the course required to teach Swim for Life swimming lessons. If you are interested in being a swim instructor please call the town to register. There are limited spots available. The Luseland pool is also holding three sets of swimming lessons again this year. The first set is July 3-6 and July 10-13. The second set is July 17-23 and the final set is Aug. 1-4 and Aug. 8-11. There is room in the sessions yet at this time, so if you haven’t already registered please do so.

The Luseland Canada Day Committee have another great weekend event planned to celebrate Canada Day. There will be a mixed slo-pitch tournament that begins June 30, beer gardens and a dance. July 1, there will be the flag raising at 9:15 a.m., Canada Day cupcakes and coffee to follow at the Pioneer Club, and many children’s activities, such as the Smurf train, bouncy castles, face painting, balloon animals and more at the fairgrounds. The museum will be open and offering homemade ice cream and old-fashioned games. A movie for the kids will be at the Luseland Community Hall at 2:30 p.m. The Luseland pool will be holding a pool Olympics in the afternoon and the Luseland Credit Union will be hosting a family street dance later that afternoon and into early evening in front of the Luseland Homecoming Hall. For a full slate of weekend activities, please visit the Town of Luseland Facebook page or the Luseland Canada Day page.

Due to a resolution passed at SUMA, the provincial government has asked SGI to expand their policies to allow the use of golf carts on certain municipal roads, if their municipality passes bylaws, subject to limitations and SGI approval. The town will be taking a first glance at a golf cart bylaw at their next council meeting. Stay tuned for more information on this.

The town did contract street sweeping on May 30 and 31. This really cleaned up the roads after winter. The street committee also conducted its semi-annual unsightly property tour and we are happy to announce that so many of our residents take great pride in the beautification of their properties. If you haven’t done so already, this is a great time to ensure your yard is clean, grass and weeds cuts and junk is removed from your property. This also helps ensure that we keep the mosquito population down and don’t encourage the risk of rodents finding homes.

We are extremely thrilled that we have now welcomed our newest doctor, Mada Wentzel, into the community. The Luseland Clinic is now running three days a week as opposed to two, with Dr. Johann Wentzel, Dr. Mada Wentzel and NP Janelle Fischer each coming one day each week. Please follow the town‘s Facebook page to follow the monthly clinic hours.

We’ve had some staffing changes over the past few weeks. The town says goodbye to assistant administrator Virginia Brice who was with us for the past four years. She will now be working at the Luseland Credit Union. We wish you the best of luck in your future venture. You will be missed. We will now welcome Krystal Bazylinski to our office staff, who will start on Monday, June 12 in the assistant admin role. She will be working towards her LGA courses and taking on the administrator role in the future. We are sad as we now lose an amazing councillor but we feel she will be an exceptional addition to our municipal team as she has significant knowledge and skills that she brings to the table.
