KERROBERT — Greetings from the town of Kerrobert. I want to start with a quick correction from last month's article. I wrote a quick blurb about this past hockey season, and particularly the newly formed Cross Roads Hockey League. This senior league has four teams — Kerrobert, Dodsland, Kindersley and Luseland. In my last article, I wrote that Eatonia was a part of this league instead of Luseland. I want to apologize to Luseland and the Luseland Mallards team for this mistake. This was not intentional, and I meant no disrespect. This is an exciting league with the possibility of expanding to more teams next season. We look forward to many years of great hockey ahead.
It is budget time for many municipalities in our area and of course our own. We have just begun discussions, facing the challenges of stretching our tax dollars to accomplish as much as we can. We are also planning Phase Two of a street project to include new underground infrastructure and paving, which will go out for tender this year. The work is to take place in 2025. The planning of this project does affect some decisions on other work that we would like to have done in town, as we do our best to try to make living here as affordable as we can. We have many properties to look after with the bigger buildings being our arena, swimming pools and town hall. We also have the fairgrounds, ball diamonds and parks to keep up with, and the streets. We have already begun patching potholes and cleaning up some properties. Our street sweeper needed some parts and then it will also be out and about cleaning up the streets.
We have many new residents moving to Kerrobert, and in some cases, they have animals, in particular dogs. I want to remind all residents, there are by-laws in place which include what types of dogs and how many are allowed. Canines need to be licensed, on a leash or fenced in and not roaming around freely. If your dog is caught, it will be held for the bylaw enforcement officer to submit a fine and/or the dog will be taken to the pound in Saskatoon. Residents have a right to be able to go for a walk within the town without the fear of a stray dog coming up to them, and possibly being aggressive. Let’s keep Kerrobert safe to enjoy for everyone.
