The greens are good to Wood

Legions of golf fans were cheering loud for Justin Wood who sits tied at second for the Canadian Mid-Am golf championships, with final round on Aug. 27.

Saskatchewan golf enthusiasts, hometown fans, family, friends, and the Riverside Country Club in Saskatoon are cheering extra loud after learning Justin Wood is tied for second place at the Canadian Mid-Am golf championships in Fort McMurray Alberta, with one round left to play.

Wood joined 16 other Saskatchewan golfers looking to make the cut into championship rounds at this national event, which started with practice rounds on Aug. 23, and play beginning Aug. 24.

After round one, Wood was off to a fantastic start shooting an even par, 72, on day one, tying him for third spot. This set Wood only two shots back of the leader, Charles Fitzsimmons, of London, Ont.

Day two of this Canadian championship, Wood stayed on track keeping himself in the hunt at this competition. Following his even par 72 on Tuesday, he scored a one-over, 73, score on Wednesday, putting him just three strokes off the lead.

Wood’s first two rounds put him through the cut into the final two rounds of this men’s Canadian championship event.

Round three also proved another good day on the course for Wood who now sits tied for second spot with Toronto’s David Lang. Both Wood and Lang sit four strokes off the leader, Neil Thomas, of Edmonton, Alta.

Wood's sister, Jenna, said on behalf of his family, "We are really proud of him. It's so fun to watch the numbers come in and see where he's at during the day. He puts in so many hours on the golf course each year and it's really great to see him do well at something he loves so much. We're excited to see what happens tomorrow."

With every report outlining Wood’s top three standing in his continued quest for this Canadian championship, Unity and Saskatoon golf fans could be heard cheering just a little louder. Social media posts were plenty as legions of supporters wanted to voice their encouragement for the Riverside golfer. It was evident that many fans would be refreshing social media feeds continuously following his 10 a.m. tee time for the final round, Aug. 27.

As one enthusiastic fan who wished to remain anonymous said, “May the course be with you.”
