SWHL teams on a playoff breakaway

Senior hockey teams that are part of the SWHL are all looking to extend their hockey seasons with both league and provincial playoffs now underway

UNITY ‑ Senior hockey teams are in their playoff season in both provincial and league playoffs for the Sask. West Hockey League.

These results are as of Feb. 7.

Looking at league playoffs, the Wilkie Outlaws hold a 1-0 lead over the Biggar Nationals in the 2 vs 7 quarter-final matchup. The Unity Miners, after losing games this weekend, are down 2-0 to the Kindersley Sr. Klippers in the 3 vs 6 series. The top-place Macklin Mohawks and the eighth-place Kerrobert Tigers have yet to play a league playoff game. These are scheduled for the weekend of Feb 12. The final series is the 4 vs 5 matchup featuring the Edam 3 Stars and Hafford Hawks, with Edam currently holding a 1-0 series lead. All series are best of five. 

In provincial playoffs, the Outlaws drew the Delisle Bruins of the Sask. Valley Hockey League in the first round of Senior B and won two straight games to advance to the next round. There, they face a SWHL foe in the Hafford Hawks, who needed all three games to defeat the Birch Hills Blackhawks of the Twin Rivers Hockey League.

Macklin Mohawks drew the Kenaston Blizzards of the SVHL in the first round of Senior D, with these games starting in a couple week's time. The Kerrobert Tigers drew the Kyle Elks of the SVHL in the D bracket as well. The teams played this weekend, with Kerrobert coming out on the losing end in both games, putting an end to their provincial title hopes. All senior bracket series are best of three. 

Provincials rapid fire: 

Kindersley Sr Klippers vs Eston Ramblers (SVHL) ‑ series tied 0-0; dates TBD;

Biggar Nationals vs Lanigan Pirates (Long Lake Hockey League) ‑ series tied 0-0; games scheduled for this upcoming weekend;

Edam 3 Stars vs Debden Jets ‑ series tied 0-0; games scheduled for next weekend.

The Unity Miners: did not enter provincials.
