SWHL playoff teams dwindling

The Sask. West Hockey League is down to four teams in league playoffs as well as just Wilkie Outlaws and Macklin Mohawks left in their respective provincial playoff series

Whether its provincial playoffs or Sask. West Hockey League playoffs, the number of teams remaining in the hunt are dwindling.

The red-hot Wilkie Outlaws continue to dominate the standings as they did in regular season league as they swept the Biggar Nationals in opening round of league playoffs and will continue to the SWHL semifinals, facing off against the Kindersley Klippers in a best-of-five series

In provincial playdowns, the Outlaws also swept the Deslisle Bruins in best-of-three series and enter a round-two series against the Hafford Hawks. The series will begin Feb. 20 at the SaskCan arena, followed by a road game to Hafford Feb. 27, returning to Wilkie Feb. 27.

The Kerrobert Tigers were eliminated from a provincial series with the Macklin Mohawks in game three on the road in a best-of-five series Feb. 13. The Tigers were previously eliminated in two games of a best-of-three series from provincial playdowns against the Kyle Elks. The Tigers paid homage to 20-year SWHL veteran, and longtime Tigers player Tyson Wuttunee in a pre-game ceremony Feb. 12, which turned out to be his last home game played in Kerrobert.

The Macklin Mohawks quick elimination of opposition in league playoffs gave them a little rest time before they start their provincial quest against Kenaston Blizzards on the road.

The Unity Miners did not enter provincial playdowns. Kindersley Klippers made a quick end to their season overall defeating the Miners in three games of five in their series, with their last game on the road Feb. 11.
