WILKIE — The Wilkie Outlaws cruised through their series against Willow Cree Chiefs and have advanced to the Northern final against the winner of Wadena and Rocanville in provincial B senior men’s championships.
Wilkie defeated Willow Cree 6-2 in game one and by a score of 4-1 in the final game of the best-of-three Willow Cree series noting thanks in their Twitter feed to the Willow Cree Chiefs for the good series.
The Macklin Mohawks also advanced from their opening provincial series against the Craik Warriors and will advance to the northern final of the senior men’s provincial D championships. Their Twitter feed noted the team put on the work boots and has a great series against Craik, winning the final game of the best-of-three series by a score of 5-2 in Craik. Carson Pickett was commended for a hat trick earned in the opening game of this playoff series helping the team cruise to an 8-4 win.
The Sask West Hockey League semifinals are best-of-five series. One semifinal between Edam 3-Stars and Wilkie Outlaws has games set for Feb. 17 in Wilkie, Feb. 22 in Edam and return to Wilkie’s arena Feb. 28. If games four and five are needed, they are set for March 3 in Edam and returning to Wilkie March 7 for game five.
The Macklin Mohawks are taking on the top seed Kindersley Klippers in hopes of retaining their SWHL title. Game one of the best-of-five series takes place in a rare weeknight match on Feb. 15 while game two is set for Feb. 19 in Kindersley, with the remainder of the game dates not yet finalized according to the league website.
The communities of Wilkie and Macklin are amping up fan excitement for these playoff series by hosting additional activities on game days and have the added bonus of community sponsors for guaranteed 50/50 jackpots for home games.
