UNITY - A week before students return to class, the Living Sky School Division and Light of Christ School Divisions both put out their return-to-school plans. Both school divisions also reminded staff, students and parents that these plans would be included, in detail, on their websites.
Both school divisions have directed that in elementary schools, staff and students would be required to wear masks indoors. In addition, in K-12 schools under the direction of their specific school district, would be required to mask in common areas. Masks are also required for everyone riding school buses and anyone visiting the school.
LOCCSD said, “Extracurricular clubs, sports and activities will resume with in the parameters of each School Division’s Safe School Plan. Masks will not be required for outdoor activities.”
Details of each school division’s plan will be reviewed on an ongoing basis in consultation with local health officials, consulting data related to transmission risk, COVID-19 case rates, vaccine rates and local epidemiological evidence.
Staff are happy to welcome students back to in-person learning. Schools are prepared with a contingency plan in the case that hybrid or online learning will be necessary.
Students and families are reminded to remain vigilant with measures that are necessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19, as this will in turn, help protect staff and students within our community’s schools.
In the Safe School Plan issued by Living Sky School Division, it states, "Masks are strongly recommended for all other staff and students. Mask use for indoor events such as gym classes, choir and band will be promoted where possible and practical. It is important to create a mask-friendly environment in all LSSD buildings.”
Although there are no strict guidelines for physical distancing for students or staff, schools will do their best to space students appropriately in classrooms and common areas.
