Revolution Dance holds showcase of stars live performance

The audience who attended the March 13 Revolution Dance Showcase of Stars were not disappointed by the array of talent on display from local dance students

UNITY ‑ March 13 saw the return to the stage of Revolution Dance as A Showcase of the Stars was presented.

They had missed the last two years because of restrictions. The Showcase includes solo and duet performances, choreographed by Courtney Smith, Emma Strus, Brianna Bakken and Madison Gilbert, and Mrs. Stephen. The music ranged from jazz to classic rock to hip hop; young women danced and acted to romantic heartbreak songs or pirouetted their way through dreamy ballet. One young man, Chester Miller, in a Robin Hood costume, danced his number with a bow and arrow.

As the many dancers displayed their considerable skill and talent, sequins flashed, ponytails flew and the audience clapped and cheered as the dancers entered and left the stage, eyes bright with the joy of achievement. Some of the dancers stood out for their athleticism and gymnastic moves, and the grace and fluidity of others was captivating.

During the intermission, announcer Bryce Woytiuk awarded prizes to several contest winners, the last being the peoples’ choice of one dancer out of the group of 15 who appeared to know most of the moves to the songs in a mashup.

Words of appreciation went out to dance teachers, choreographers, parents, technical crew and UCHS for helping to get the production together. The dancers work endless hours on their skills; the parents provide support in many ways, including the cost of lessons, costumes and makeup; and the teachers have to navigate countless challenges, including catching up after nasty weather forces the cancellation of classes.

Revolution Dance will present their recital, which includes all the dancers, ensembles, and individuals, May 13 and 14.
