UNITY — Provincial action has been in our community arenas for a couple weeks now for local minor hockey teams. League playoffs have started or will start soon for minor hockey teams

Unity U18 Lazers headed to Clavet Feb. 13 after losing game one of a three-game series. A spokesperson for the team said in a text to the Press-Herald / SASKTODAY.ca, “We tied our second game 4-4. The boys played amazing but because they lost the first game, we are done. That’s hockey.” During that game, a penalty shot was called and Clavet scored.

The U15 team faced off against close rivals, Wilkie Outlaws, in round two of the provincial series. See Helena Long’s full story in the Feb. 18 issue of the Press-Herald on the full game recap. It provided fans their money’s worth in a tightly contested series that saw Unity advance after a sudden-death overtime win.

The U13 Lazers, after receiving a bye to second round, won their opening game in series two of their three-game series against Hague. They played game two Feb. 13 resulting in a score of 7-3 for Hague. In the new playoff format, a 10-minute mini-game is played when game results are split, which resulted in a loss for Unity, eliminating them from provincial playoff contention

Kerrobert U18 are competing in the D division of provincial brackets and dropped their first game to Hillmond by a score of 5-1. The U18 Tigers were able to come back and win game two by a score of 2-1 and also captured the W in the mini-game by a score of 4-2. They will now face off against the winner of Macklin vs Lashburn series. As of Feb. 7, no details were received on game two. Kerrobert is also in the D division of U15 provincial playoff bracket facing off against Naicam, with Naicam advancing after winning the opening game and mini game, thus eliminating the U15 Tigers. In the U13 D division, Kerrobert was not able to overcome Muenster in their opening series, so are now eliminated from provincials.

Macklin U18 are competing in the D division of provincial playdowns and face off against Lashburn with series to be completed be Feb. 17. As of press time, no updates were available on Sask Hockey. In the U15 division, Macklin is facing Aberdeen and, as of press time, Hockey Sask had updates for game one only, which Macklin won 9-3. The winner will face off against Naicam in round two. In U13, Macklin received a bye to the second round and made quick work in two games, defeating Neilburg. They advance to round three playing, the winner of Muenster vs. Lanigan

In the first U18 provincial game held in Wilkie in 10 years, the Wilkie U18 Outlaws played their series against Meadow Lake, dropping two games eliminating them from provincial contention. The U15 Outlaws, after defeating Waldheim in the first round gave the fans their money’s worth in round two against Unity resulting in a game one win, a game two loss, a 10-minute mini-game tie and sudden death overtime loss eliminating them from provincial playoffs. The U13 Outlaws played, and won, their first game on the road against Meadow Lake with a convincing 12-3 score. Game two of this series was in Biggar Feb. 12 and the team had another decided victory, winning 7-2 sending them onto the next round of provincial playoffs.

Wilkie Outlaw U11, and U9 teams will experience league playoff tournaments in March.
