SASKATCHEWAN — A Saskatchewan government press release outlines Press-Herald communities that are part of 1,300 groups and organizations in the province benefitting from the latest quarterly payment of charitable gaming grants totalling approximately $1.9 million.
Two organizations in the community of Luseland received a total of $9.858.65 — Luseland Minor Hockey, $4,843.65 and Luseland Recreation Board, $49.14.99.
Macklin had one recipient, the Macklin and District Aquatic Centre Inc. for a total of $ 3,343.23.
In Unity, six organizations received $11,423.31: Unity Kin Club, $729.38; Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 90, $408.50; Unity Golf Club, $5,576; Unity U15 Wheat Kings Hockey Club, $2,200; Unity Curling Club, $577.29; and Unity Minor Hockey, $1,832.14.
The Wilkie Curling Club received $2,705.27 while the Wilkie/Scott Pastoral Charge received $281.25 totaling $2,986.52 allotted in that community.
"Groups and organizations who receive these grants do so because of their hard work strengthening their communities," Minister Responsible for the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority Lori Carr said.
Groups that conduct licensed charitable gaming activities such as bingo, raffles, breakopens, Texas Hold 'em poker and Monte Carlo events are eligible for the quarterly grant. The grant is equal to 25 per cent of the net revenues raised from the event to a maximum grant of $100,000 annually.
Charities do not have to apply to receive the grant. SLGA obtains the necessary information to calculate the grant from the paperwork submitted by the group or organization.
