Playoffs have begun for WCWK AA U18

West Central Wheat Kings captured the final playoff spot in the Sask U18 AA hockey league, beginning their series in Saskatoon Feb. 21

UNITY — When the dust settled at the end of regular season, the West Central Wheat Kings AA U18 team had earned a playoff spot.

Coach Pat Sperle tells the Press-Herald / SASKTODAY.ca, “We ended up slipping from fifth to eighth spot last week. We are only three points out of fifth so we will be playing the number one team in our division, the Saskatoon River Kings.“

“We have seen everyone, we have beat everyone all year long. The River Kings are a very good team that skate very well so we will have to be at our best to beat them,” adds Sperle

The highs and lows of the Wheat Kings season made their desire to earn a playoff spot even bigger, knowing they were in a tight spot to secure a top-eight finish.

The Centre Four division playoffs for the Wheaties begins Feb. 21 on the road, returning to home arena for game two on Feb. 26. The best of five series will continue with game three in Gordie Howe arena on Feb. 27 and games four and five are set for Unity and Saskatoon respectively.

Of players who went to Sask First try out U18 camp, the following players have advanced in top 60 selection: Congratulations to our players who have advanced: Leighton Partington, Hunter Sperle, Colbey Frocklage, Austin Shepherd, Landyn Nash, Kaden Veller
