WILKIE — The Wilkie Outlaws are taking a break from the ice to crack some smiles. Since the pandemic, the Outlaws have not been able to hold an evening fundraiser. They chose this year to bring in comedian Joel Jeffrey to entertain guests.
Comedy night organizer, Kirk Sittler, said the evening needed a new face as this will be the first in-person fundraiser. While researching local comedians, Jeffrey’s name came up as one of the top-rated entertainers in the province. The Outlaws all agreed Jeffrey’s comedy was what was needed for the evening to be a success.
Hailing from Saskatoon, Jeffrey started in radio broadcasting and climbed the ladder to on-air host with radio stations throughout Western Canada. His on-air personality had listeners laughing so he decided to try his hand at stand-up comedy. He returned to Saskatoon, creating a name on stage as a stand-up comic along with becoming an instructor with the Western Academy Broadcasting College.
Jeffrey’s jokes have gone viral both online and on stage. He has performed on some of the largest comedy stages in Canada and even became a recording artist with Just For Laughs Originals.
Jeffrey has travelled to many countries, picking up new material along the way. He loves joking about his home province. “I love Saskatchewan. The people here are very enjoyable,” said Jeffrey. His work has been used internationally through social media including Twitter. He has also been featured on Comedy Central, CBC, CTV, Global TV and more.
Jeffrey is more than just a comedian, he is also a best-selling author. With some of his classic Saskatchewan-based jokes, Jeffrey found writing a book versus writing jokes was a new challenge for him. His book “The Great Saskatchewan Joke Book” is a number one best-seller in Saskatchewan and a top 25 best-selling humour book in Canada through Amazon.
Jeffery will be performing at the SaskCan Community Centre Oct. 21 with Connor Shram opening. The doors will be open at 7:30 p.m. with the show starting at 9 p.m. There will be items up for auction as well throughout the evening to help with additional fundraising.
