MACKLIN — Macklin Minor Hockey held registration on Sept. 6 and the youth sports organization says they are happy to have some new families added to MMHA. As well, MMHA secretary Tiffany Kohlman says that numbers are up from last year.
Perhaps the 2021-22 Cinderella season experienced by Macklin hockey teams can attribute to the increase in registration for their program. Two teams won provincial championships with the U18 making it to the provincial final. League finals were also part of the success story for Macklin teams. For instance, the U13 Macklin Mohawks won both a provincial and league title, going through their entire season undefeated.
Sept. 30 weekend a hockey school was hosted at the Macklin Communiplex. Next on the agenda for the minor hockey program will be 3-on-3 skating for players ages U9 and up to help with conditioning prior to the season’s start on Oct. 10.
“It will be tough to follow the successful year we had last year,” says Kohlman.
MMHA had a number of players migrate to the AA program.
Kohlman adds, “With that being said, Macklin is a town with a lot of athletic young kids that work hard and are eager to win. We also have great coaches that put much time and dedication to their teams, which does not go unnoticed.”
There is an exciting addition to MMHA for the upcoming season as there will be a U11 girls’ team. Kohlman says Macklin girls and some from neighbouring communities will get the opportunity to practise at home arenas as well as host some games in Macklin.
