UNITY – While January was quiet for the volunteer fire department in Unity, the team was able to welcome some new recruits to the hall. Their monthly practice allowed the new recruits to get used to all the tools and gear.
February had the crews out a few times. Two calls were made to assist EMTs with lifts of patients who needed medical attention. One call was for a motor vehicle collision, which resulted in only minor injuries. Two more calls were made over the month, which turned out to be false alarms with smoke alarms going off for burned suppers.
This month, the department would like to remind anyone who has a fire hydrant on their property that there needs to have a minimum of a metre cleared in all directions of the hydrant.
