MACKLIN - So far 2021 has been slightly busier than average. Macklin Fire Department has been to 29 calls with the majority of them being fire calls. They have only attended a few MVA’s, and the rest have been assorted other calls. This year, the MFD team has had the fewest false alarm calls we seen in a long time. This is good news.
It has been a busy year at the hall with the usual courses and meetings. Number of volunteers has stayed the same at 20. Elliot Cline and his young family have moved out of town, so he has stepped down. He will be missed for his calm and cool disposition on calls. The MFD thanks Elliot for his time and dedication.
Spencer Nelson has joined, and is the only rookie this year.
MFD held our annual barbecue with the Fire Board this summer and used this opportunity to hand out some years of service medals: Andre Benwell, Logan Sieben, Cody Heffner and Lance Legge all received their 5-year pins. Cole Bast got his 10-year pin. Justin Bast FC, Peter Sieben and Rod Soderlund received their 25-year pins and Gary Walz was there for his 30-year pin. That is 135 years of combined dedication and service from these fine gentlemen! Thank you all. Justin, Peter and Rod have all qualified to get the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal for their 25 years of volunteering. The medals will be presented in Saskatoon during Fire Prevention Week.
As always MFD are looking for some more men and women to help fill out our department.
The theme for fire prevention week this year is “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety.” Long and loud means an emergency and short chirps mean time to service them. It is a good time to check your smoke detectors and CO detectors. Change the batteries if required and remember there is an expiry date on these units. (Usually 10 years) Look for this date and change them if necessary.
