LUSELAND - The Luseland Community Development Committee hosted its annual Harvest Festival on Sept. 7. We had a gorgeous day with temperatures around 31 C. Many businesses and community groups had in-store specials or participated by hosting events. The Luseland museum once again had their veggie car races, which are a huge event, and the vegetable car show and shine. The Luseland Community Development Committee tried a few new activities this year with our first Chili Cookoff, which was won by Dina Reiber and ran a dunk tank with six people volunteering to get dunked.
Kathy Wurz, Mayor of the Town of Luseland; CAO, Krystal Bazylinski; Police Chief Ty Kohlman; Town Foreman Jason Englot; Luseland Credit Union manager Adam Franko; and teacher Vanessa Faubert, were all volunteers to make several splashes and raise money for a yet to be determined local project or organization. The dunk tank made $1,500 and our first chili cookoff another $530.
Our new police chief, Ty Kohlman completed his field training and officially kicked off his role in the town on Sept. 7 by participating in the dunk tank fundraiser. He was a great sport and was able to meet a lot of people that day. Stay tuned as Chief Kohlman will be touring around and meeting business owners and some planned visits to the school.
The Town of Luseland has recently cleaned up some dilapidated buildings on Main Street, which were tax title properties and currently have them tendered for sale. Our business sector is immensely important to the Town of Luseland, to help ensure the longevity of the community.
The Town of Luseland would like to welcome Adam Cook, a new employee that will help fill a newly created position in the community. Some months ago, Bell Acres Golf Club approached the town regarding groundskeeping needs to fill a retirement soon occurring. In collaboration with the golf club executive, we have created a new recreation position. Adam will be working for Bell Acres Golf Club and playing a role in managing our arena. We welcome Adam and his wife to the area.
The Luseland/Salvador Community Hall Board and Pothole Productions will be hosting a Halloween Dance Party on Nov. 2. The hall board is actively continuing their fundraising events to do various capital projects at the hall. With the donations made from Pothole Productions, some air conditioning units will be added to the hall. Movies will also soon be playing once again, stay tuned for more information on our hall Facebook page.
The Town of Luseland is gearing up for the start-up of the arena. We are projecting to have the ice in and things running around mid-October. We have also just secured a new rink booth operator. Lyle Endicott of Kerrobert will be running the rink kitchen this year and we are glad to welcome him aboard.
