UNITY — Sask. West Hockey League President, Joe Cey, continues to provide insightful updates from the week’s regular season games.
Cey says, “The young, hard-working Unity Miners played two solid home games, but unfortunately came away empty handed in both. The Miners are still looking for their first win of the young season.”
Unity led the Edam 3-Stars 3-1 after two periods in the Dec. 3 game, however Edam came back to score two in the third to force overtime. When OT solved nothing, the teams went to a shootout and out of six shooters, Edam’s Jordan Fransoo was the only scorer earning the win, keeping their unbeaten streak alive at 3-0.
“Rewerts was sharp in net turning aside 31 of 34 shots,” adds Cey.
Dec. 4, the Miners incurred another loss at the hands of the Wilkie Outlaws in a hard-hitting, entertaining game. Cey notes newcomer, Ryan Keller, led Wilkie up front with one goal and three assists while Curtis Sander was solid in net turning aside 21 of 22 shots. Miners netminder, Brett Vanderveer made some superb saves stopping 36 of 42 shots on net.
The Outlaws hosted the Kerrobert Tigers on Dec. 4 downing the cats 12-3. Wilkie’s Blake Young had a big night at 3-3. Dillon Beaudien earned his keep in the Tigers’ net as he was bombarded with 54 shots.
Dec. 4 afternoon, the high-flying Klippers ran their undefeated streak to seven after downing the Biggar Nationals 9-2 at the Jube.
“The Dziurzynski brothers continue to put up big points for Kindersley, David (2-2), Darian (0-4). Luke Sproule got the start for Kindersley, stopping 30 of 32. Kyle Laturnus got a rare start for the Nats and was bombarded with 55 shots,” says Cey.
It was another week of solid goaltending performances in the SWHL.
Cey announced that week six Player of the Week goes to the Outlaws’ Blake Young with four goals and four assists in two games, and now leads the league in goals with 10. His 16 points puts him in fifth spot in league points.
