Kinjo & Young on tour with art councils

Musical duo brought to Luseland and Macklin through the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils.

UNITY — The Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils (OSAC) has selected Kinjo & Young as this fall’s entertainment to tour around Saskatchewan.

Kinjo & Young have travelled the globe as individuals and with other bands over the years. Each performer picked up on a multitude of musical genres during their travels, yet found the blues, funk, reggae and soul to be their calling. The pair also talks of their journeys to the foreign lands they have visited while showcasing enchanting guitar solos and thoughtful lyrics in their music.

The Luseland Arts Council had the duo grace the stage at the Luseland Homecoming Hall on Oct. 18. Jean Halliday, president of the LAC, said the show was great.

“For a small community, we average 100 people or more at a show and we would have been just about there for this show as well,” she adds.

The LAC chose a casual feel for the evening with chairs around tables and locally grown apples placed on each table for all to enjoy. The all-acoustic show and vocal harmonies created an atmosphere unlike any other.

The pair fit well into the laid-back feel of the evening, playing cover tunes along with original songs.

“They were amazing musicians. They could make their guitars sing. It was such a good evening,” said Halliday.

Kinjo & Young are set to play again with the Macklin Arts Council Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m.
