KERROBERT — Benefitting Kerrobert Courthouse Restoration Society, two big festive events were held in the community Dec. 1 and 2.
Kicking it off was a festival of trees at the iconic Kerrobert Courthouse. In addition to a dazzling display of trees, the organizing committee lined up other events to offer something for all ages.
There was a special memorial tree that acknowledged those who have passed, decorated by Margie Snell and Allison Knorr in memory of their sons Dallas and Jayden. Residents were welcome to add their loved one’s names to the tree.
Another creative idea was the secret Santa tree wherein residents could choose a tag that included the name of a local senior and their wish list, and the wrapped gifts would be returned to D’Lux Hardware to be delivered to Hillside Lodge, Pioneers Haven and Kerrobert Long Term Care residents.
Hot apple cider was served and treat bags were assembled for children in attendance. The library offered take and make kits as well as a guest reader at two evening times. The museum tours included the new toy exhibit recently refurbished. There was also carol singing led by Lannette Ressier and Kristen Boyle.
The weather was not conducive to tobogganing and bonfire however that event was quickly revamped to include public skating instead, while hayrides and hot dogs were moved to the courthouse.
The courtyard at the courthouse was officially lit up for the holidays at 6:30 p.m. to accompany evening twinkle tours.
The Christmas village was officially opened at 432 - Atlantic Ave. and Santa made an appearance there.
The organizing committee said many hands made light work and they were thankful for help with set up from the team at Prairie Branches. Volunteers contributed to tree decorating, as did businesses and organizations.
The following night the same committee hosted the town side Christmas party that included food, entertainment and dancing at the Prairieland Community Centre.
It was a busy time for the Kerrobert Courthouse Restoration Society in their efforts to continue fundraising for upgrades at the courthouse.
Despite the frigid weather, residents’ consensus was appreciation for the opportunity to kick off Christmas in the community with the festive fun provided with these two events.
