KERROBERT — Seems that Old Man Winter is being extra grumpy this year. I remember very little to no snow by the middle of March last year. I also remember seeing a few geese at this time last year. I don’t mind having a winter season, but we are entering six months of this. I sure hope it warms up soon.
After several years of not having a club, the Kinettes are starting back up in Kerrobert. After a meeting March 8 to see what interest there would be, 18 new members signed up. The goal of the group is to plan and provide events to the community that allow everyone to get involved including kids and families. Like all local groups, more people are welcome to join, and these women have hit the ground running, and are already planning events.
Hockey is wrapping up in the West Central area. Local teams have found different levels of success, from winning championships, or growing stronger as a team. One thing is for sure, everyone has had a good time getting out and coming alongside their friends and in front of their families to support them throughout the cold winter months.
I will be attending the SUMA convention this year in Saskatoon, after a few years’ hiatus due to the COVID pandemic. It will be good to go and mingle once again with councillors and mayors from other communities. It is a great way to see what challenges each community is facing, and what types of plans they have come up with to deal with the challenges. It helps us grow better as a community so as not to repeat plans that another town might have tried that didn’t work.
With taxpayer dollars, we always want to put our best foot forward to tackle challenges as best we can and stretch the community dollars as far as we can. It is also a chance to talk to our MLA's at the Provincial level, to see what kind of support we can get from them as well.
