Comeback from the hack: Unity Curling Club events are filling up

Pattison Ag Men's Open full with 16 teams participating.

UNITY — Unity Curling Club held an Open Doubles Fun Spiel Jan. 12, with 10 teams entered to fill the sheets for three games, four ends each. Team members ranged in age from 15 to 80. Some were experienced doubles curlers and some were learning the rules of the game.

The Thursday Learn to Curl League will wind up on Feb. 15. Participants have honed their curling skills, enjoyed a “glow in the dark” curling evening and made new friends. Brenda Pool organized and coached the league again this year along with volunteer coaches Patrick Schmidtz, Shawn Bonogofski, Keaton Knorr, Jordis Zunti and Cameron Kelly. Their time, energy and skills with our newest curlers for the future were appreciated.

The Monday Home School League will wind up on Feb. 20. This was another group of youth learning about curling, honing their skills and enjoying the sport, with skills they can use and enjoy in the future. Coaches Lloyd Fell and Terry Watt volunteered their time, knowledge and energy to teach these youngsters.

The Unity Curling Club hosted the Pattison Ag Men’s Open Jan. 18 – 20, with 16 teams participating. It was great to fill the ice surface and lounge with curlers, spectators and even hockey fans. Members are thankful for those who participated and continue to support the club.
The event’s success was due to dedicated sponsors and businesses in Unity and surrounding district.

There will be a sturling spiel Feb. 15 – which is a two-person spiel. Feb. 24, the club hosts a junior spiel, with posters going out to neighbouring clubs. The 21st annual Oilperson Bonspiel is March 1 and 2. The event wraps up March 2 with a dance with Danny and The Dusters. The dance will be open to everyone 19 and over.

The Bramiche Ladies’ Open is March 15 and 16. There will be fun, prizes, six-end curling games and camaraderie.

Hurry hard and get your teams in for the upcoming spiels.
