UPDATED Brewers bounce the Beavers, will play for NSRBL title

North Saskatchewan River Baseball League final will include Wilkie Brewers

WILKIE--The Wilkie Brewers eliminated the North Battleford Beavers in two games to earn their place in the North Saskatchewan River Baseball League final.

Game one was played in North Battleford. The match up was all Brewers as they scored five unanswered runs Tanner Huber was credited for his pitching performance, as well as some timely hitting late in the game.  

Game two provided plenty of excitement with the Brewers looking to battle back from a deficit. The Brew Crew scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning, capped off by Gavin Wourms driving in the winning run en route to a 6-5 victory. at home

Brewers Manager and player, Rob Cey, says, "The Wilkie Brewers are excited to be in the NSRBL final for the first time since winning in 2016."

Cey adds that the final won't begin until Aug. 9 to give teams a break for provincials being held Aug. 5-7

"Tanner Huber and Cory Wildeman both have two wins this postseason. Steven Redlich had a crucial walk-off home run to give the Brewers the victory in game one of our quarter finals against Kindersley. Gavin Wourms had the walk-off hit that led to a 6-5 victory which eliminated the North Battleford Beavers in the semi-finals. All players have chipped in with steady defense and timely hitting in the postseason as the Brewers have found a way to win some close games. With a batting order that is deep in talent we look forward to the opportunity to put it to the test against the league's best teams," adds Cey.

The Brewers have appreciated the support of fans in the stands throughout their season and are looking forward to the continued support and energy they provide as they head into the NSRBL final.

The Brewers will now wait for the winner between the Macklin Lakers and the Standard Hill Lakers to compete against for the league championship. Standard Hill was up one game on Macklin and game two is being played July 27.

The NSRBL final is a best of three series set to begin Aug 1. Teams are also gearing up for their respective provincial events upcoming Aug. 5-7.
