Blast from the Past: SAAN store closes doors for good Dec. 24

50 years ago

C & D Polled Herefords, owned by Clayton and Doug White of Unity, had the Reserve Champion bull calf at Agribition, out of over 120 entries. The calf later sold to a Minnesota rancher for $600. D & C’s group of five females were the Grand Champions in their category.

Members of the Senlac 4-H Club took their calves to Grant Moncrieff’s for weighing and tagging.

Luseland Christmas gatherings included the United Church Women’s Christmas program, a Royal Purple party and the Senior Citizens Annual Christmas Party.

Digital clock radios came highly recommended as a gift for “him.”

The Hospital Bulletin listed 16 patients from Unity, two from Senlac, two from Tramping Lake, one each from Luseland, Denzil and Rutland, and, from Revenue, “Baby Kurt Elder.”

20 years ago

Breanne Laturnus, daughter of Roman and Wanda Laturnus of Tramping Lake/Wilkie area, received a silver medal for Grade 5 violin from the Royal Conservatory of Music.

Hanging signage and photos of the first inductees, Don Robertson, Bob Eltom and Stan Weber put the finishing touches onto the Unity Sports Wall of Fame in the Unity Community Centre lobby.

The Wilkie Centennial 2005 planning committee had arranged for bells to ring at 12 noon Jan. 1, 2005 to kick off the celebrations.

Closing for good Dec. 24, the SAAN store in Unity was advertising everything in the store being $5 or less.

Jelasco’s Family Restaurant was advertising oven-baked lasagna with garlic toast for $4.99 and large three-topping pizzas for $9.99.
