Annual Christmas message provides thanks for adaptable humans

Mayor Sharon Del Frari's annual Christmas message thanks residents for keeping community vibrant

UNITY— Here we are amidst another non-normal Christmas season. Thankfully humans are adaptable.

I think back to the Christmases of my childhood. Certainly, there was no such thing as internet or Wifi. We walked to school and home. Our coats and boots were certainly not as warm and weatherproof as what we enjoy today. Our world seemed simpler then.

Our lives today are indeed difficult, as we try to find our way through the pandemic without the collapse of our economy. We even face the responsibility that our decisions dealing with the atmosphere locally and globally can impact our lives in ways we never dreamed of. I am extremely grateful we don't have internal wars, floods, volcanoes or earthquakes to deal with. We don't have to go far to find many people much worse off than we are.

Christmas for me is a time to be thankful for what we have. Our residents are quick to step up and offer help in any way they can. You are inspiring. The local greenhouse offers help for any and all fundraisers. The Kin Club supports charities and individuals. Health care workers go above and beyond each and every day. The Chamber of Commerce supports community initiatives. Businesses have kept us going throughout these crazy times.

There are so many who have had a part in keeping our community vibrant through these last two years. I want to say thank you to each and every one of you. From large community groups to each individual who has taken the initiative to make the days better in any way, big or small, thank you.

All the bright Christmas lights around town remind me of every resident and community member who has shone in our town over the past year. Take some time to tour when you can. Think of all the people in your life who have helped you through to this Christmas season. Pause and let the lights warm your heart, just as we know God is always here for us, we will be here for each other.

Next year will be even bigger and brighter.

On behalf of town council and staff, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2022.
