Annual Carol Festival brings sounds of the holiday season

Holiday performances gets music lovers in the mood for Christmas following the annual Carol Festival.

UNITY - Christmas music filled the Unity Composite High School gymnasium on Dec. 15 as the annual Carol Festival took place. Despite the chilly weather outside, 150 community members attended the event hosted by the Unity Music Festival Association.

The afternoon started with “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear” performed by the afternoon’s emcee, Dave Weber. The performances continued and included two dance performances of ballet and tap, respectively. One piano duet and eleven piano solos were also performed.

The last piano piece, “Still, Still, Still”, was played by 2024’s Most Outstanding Piano Performer, Molly Orobko. Other instrumentals included a violin rendition of “O Come, O Come Emmanuel" by Will Ballantyne, and a jazzy saxophone solo of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” by Sadie Risling.

There were two oral recitations, one called “Christmas” performed by Clara Reiche, and a second humorous poem called “Once There Was a Snowman” performed by all six of the Reiche siblings.

Being a “Carol Festival”, the afternoon also included carols sung by a choir, two familial duets, an adorable triplet trio, as well as six solo performances. “Breath of Heaven” was the final song and was performed by Avyne McLean, the Most Outstanding Vocal Performer of the 2024 Music Festival.

The Unity Music Festival Association appreciated all those who made this year’s Carol Festival a success.
