Pete Gartner and Lucy Koenig were named Molson’s Bowlers of the Month at Ed Leier’s Bowladrome in Unity.

Winning Most Valuable Player awards in their respective divisions at the Unity Minor Hockey windup banquet were Morley Scott, Unity Midgets; Eldon Schwab, Unity Bantams; Tim Leier, Unity Pee Wees; and Dan Leier, Unity Wee Pees.

Coming out on top of the 41 rinks entered in the Wilkie Ladies’ Annual Bonspiel was the Ellen Ballendine rink from Cut Knife – Prongue. Ballendine’s teammates were Clara Bailey, Eunice Miller and Olive Pulsofrd.

The winners of the Grand Challenge at the mixed open bonspiel in Unity was the Bob Cummings rink, with Sharon Cumming as lead, Clara Eltom as third and Bob Eltom as second.

It was believed it had been “professional” thieves who committed a break-and-enter at the Delta Co-op hardware store in Unity. Police believed either one large or several smaller vehicles were used to cart off several large screen TVs, home theatre systems, DVDs, video games and stereos. Also stolen were some controlled drugs from the pharmacy and some .22 calibre ammunition.

Luseland Lords boys’ basketball team, coached by Jeremy Wagner, won Hoopla to become the 1A provincial champions. The Macklin senior girls won silver in 2A provincials.

Still a bit short of the money needed to proceed, Prairie Springs Mineral Spa was asking the Saskatchewan Securities Commission for more time.

Unity Minor Ball was hoping to have the fourth diamond at the regional park ready for use for the 2003 ball season.
