Suspect allegedly tried to remove woman from car in attempt to steal it

At approximately 1 p.m., Jan. 20, The Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) was alerted by the University of Saskatchewan Campus Security to an attempted theft of a vehicle that had occurred.

SASKATOON - A suspect is in custody today, after allegedly attempting to steal an occupied vehicle in Saskatoon.

At approximately 1 p.m., Jan. 20, The Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) was alerted by the University of Saskatchewan Campus Security to an attempted theft of a vehicle that had occurred.

It was reported that a male suspect attempted to physically remove a female from her car in the 100 block of Wiggins Road. The suspect was unsuccessful in the theft and fled the scene prior to police arrival. No physical injuries occurred.

At approximately 10 a.m., Jan. 21, the suspect from the previous day was located and arrested by Campus Security. The suspect became combative during the arrest and a security guard was assaulted. Members of patrol responded to the incident and the 36-year-old male suspect was transported to SPS Detention. 

Charges are pending.
