Saskatoon Police Service officer helps deliver baby while on patrol

A new mother and her newborn are safe in hospital following a medical emergency Monday night.

SASKATOON - The Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) was able to assist a pregnant woman deliver her baby while on patrol recently.

A new mother and her newborn are safe in hospital following a medical emergency Monday night.

At approximately 8:15 p.m., an SPS Sergeant was on patrol when he responded to a call for emergency assistance at 25th Street and 3rd Avenue in Saskatoon.

The caller reported that his wife was in labour, inside the vehicle, and he did not believe they would reach a hospital in time for the delivery.

When the officer arrived, he coached the woman through a final push, resulting in the birth of the baby.

"The SPS is so pleased our Sgt. was able to assist in this unique call for service," the SPS said in the release.
