Preliminary hearing set for accused charged after student set on fire

SASKATOON - A 14-year-old girl accused of allegedly setting a fellow student on fire in a Saskatoon school was back in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Feb. 21.

Dates have now been set for a preliminary hearing.

The girl, accused of allegedly lighting another student on fire on Sept. 5, 2024, at Evan Hardy Collegiate, is facing charges of attempted murder, unlawfully causing bodily harm, aggravated assault and arson.

The accused who appeared in court via CCTV elected for a judge-alone trial at the Court of King's Bench in Saskatoon.

She has a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 14 to 17 at Saskatoon Provincial Court.

The Crown has previously given notice that it will seek an adult sentence for the accused, Crown prosecutor Ainsley Furlonger confirmed to Â鶹ÊÓƵ in an email.

A Not Criminally Responsible (NCR) assessment report was previously ordered in the case, the Crown confirmed.
