Police seek public's help following bear spray incidents

SASKATOON - Saskatoon police are investigating several incidents involving bear spray that occurred over the weekend.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., Jan. 31, members of patrol were dispatched to an injured person call at a shopping centre in the 300 block of Confederation Drive. Officers learned that two male suspects both deployed bear spray into the entrance of the building towards an individual before fleeing on foot. The victim did not require medical attention.

At approximately 9 p.m., Jan. 31, police responded to a bear spray incident at an apartment in the 200 block of Avenue N Â鶹ÊÓƵ. Officers located a woman suffering from the effects of bear spray. Medical assistance was refused. The suspect and victim are believed to be known to each other.

At approximately 2 a.m., Feb. 1, Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) responded to a hotel in the 100 block of Circle Drive West for a report of a weapons call. Police learned that when a hotel security guard questioned two individuals in the parking lot, they deployed bear spray towards him before fleeing on foot. He was treated at the scene by paramedics. 

Approximately one hour later, patrol officers returned to that hotel in the 100 block of Circle Drive West. Two teen suspects reportedly deployed bear spray towards two people in the hotel lobby before fleeing. Upon arrival, police located several people suffering from the effects of bear spray. They were treated at the scene by paramedics.

On Feb. 2 at approximately 11 p.m., SPS members were dispatched to the 10 block of Westview Place. It was reported to police that a suspect smashed a window and deployed bear spray into the home before fleeing.

At approximately 12:45 a.m., Feb. 3, patrol members were dispatched to a convenience store in the 1500 block of 22nd Street West. It was reported to police that two male suspects approached the store but were refused entry. They proceeded to break a window of the store before deploying bear spray inside. The suspects had fled prior to police arrival. The two employees were located suffering from the effects of bear spray.
