SASKATOON – One person is dead after a house fire on the 2200 Block of 20th Street West.
The call came in to the Saskatoon Fire Department at 3:08 a.m. from the Saskatoon Police Service. Three fire engines, a ladder truck, a rescue unit and the Battalion Chief were dispatched.
The SFD says the first crew to arrive, at 3:14 a.m., found heavy smoke coming the main floor of a single-family bungalow. Flames were identified in the basement.
Utility companies were requested to shut down utilities for scene safety and the fire was under control at 4:28 a.m.
One occupant was home at the time of the fire and was found deceased.
Fire crews have returned to their stations.
Fire investigators are on scene and have begun the fire investigation.
No further information is available at this time, however the SFD plans to provide an update as soon as practical.
