SASKATOON — Saskatoon Transit is again offering free bus rides on New Year’s Eve as part of its program to minimize driving under the influence. The service will be available on Tuesday, Dec. 31, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Jan. 1.

This service is in partnership with and is also offered by local transportation agencies in Regina, Moose Jaw, and Prince Albert for the same reason to limit accidents and other incidents involving DUI motorists.

Transportation agencies, like Saskatoon Transit, in the province’s cities are encouraging everyone to use a variety of transportation modes on New Year’s Eve, especially if you are joining any party.

Registered Access Transit customers can also reserve free service until 2:30 a.m. Plan your trip before heading out using the real-time mobile app  or .

Multi-modal options are available to seamlessly integrate trips with Riide or Uber with Transit+. By combining transportation modes, wait times and costs can be minimized.

Take Transit on New Year's Eve for a safer, easier ride. Enjoy free service and leave the driving to a bus—no car, no cost, no worries. To learn more, visit .

In other news, Millar Avenue between 57th and 59th streets will be closed on Sunday, Dec. 29, starting at 8 a.m. for a water main repair. Detours will guide motorists around the work zone.

This project will take one day to complete, weather permitting and barring any unforeseen circumstances. Saskatoon Transit may be affected by these detours.

Transit service alerts and real-time bus information are available on third-party apps like  and  on desktop.
