PRINCE ALBERT - Prince Albert RCMP have charged three people in a drug trafficking investigation at a penitentiary near Prince Albert.
On Jan. 11 at approximately 9:20 p.m., Prince Albert RCMP received a request for assistance from Correctional Service Canada (CSC) in relation to a drug trafficking investigation at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary outside of Prince Albert.
Prince Albert RCMP responded. Investigation determined CSC employees had located a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot with three occupants inside.
During subsequent investigation, officers located and seized approximately 70 grams of methamphetamine, approximately 42 grams of cocaine, 38 pharmaceutical style pills, and drug trafficking paraphernalia inside the vehicle. A homemade slingshot that was used for launching drugs over the fence of the penitentiary was also located and seized by police.
Two adult males and an adult female were arrested at the scene.
A 23-year-old woman, from Prince Albert, a 25-year-old man, from Prince Albert, and 50-year-old man, from Shellbrook, are each charged with:
- one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine;
- one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine; and
- one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – suboxone.
The 50-year-old man appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Jan. 13. The 23-year-old woman and 25-year-old man are scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on March 3.
