Those pesky dumpster fires attended to on a regular basis by North Battleford Fire and Emergency Services must make the firefighters a little crazy.
While a diversion from the inevitable hurry up and wait aspect of the job, the senseless waste of public resources, damage to property and inevitable paperwork must be frustrating.
A recent rash of such fires had the department taking a proactive approach. Rather than sit back and wait for the next alarm, they set a trap for the pyromaniac who was causing them grief. As a result of clever video surveillance a suspect has been identified and arrested. A notable drop in faxes from the department detailing their latest foray out to douse a dumpster blaze has been noted.
While not exactly going above and beyond, investigation leader Deputy Chief Kevin Steinborn and his fellow firefighters have shown impressive initiative and creativity in their quest to protect and serve.
