Dear Editor
The extreme storm we experienced last Thursday required a tremendous effort from all City employees to respond, and they did.
From the efforts given by those at City Hall who reacted immediately to the flood on the main floor, to Public Works and Parks and Recreation staff who reacted immediately to secure areas of the City most prone to flooding, to protective services personnel who responded to an emergent situation and all front line staff who calmly and efficiently assisted residents when they phoned for help, thank you one, and thank you all.
The Emergency Measures Plan was immediately enacted and then ably directed by Tim Lafreniere and Bryan Beach. Also essential to the operation was effective communications provided by Denis Lavertu and Mike Halstead. The Emergency Operations Centre was attended by all department directors and/or their designates and, from all assessment and analysis, performed with distinction.
I observed a complete team effort - personnel coming back from vacation and others staying late and coming in early. It was a total selfless effort from everyone - from summer students to seasoned veterans - all for the common purpose of serving and protecting the citizens of North Battleford. I could not be more proud of you all.
On behalf of North Battleford City Council and myself,I extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone.
Mayor Ian Hamilton
