When he was young the family relocated to the Marlin district. There he went to school and helped his father on the family farm. He met his future wife, Anne as she and her family were neighbours. In 1946 John and Anne decided to move to Toronto to look for work. John found 3 jobs, at Dunlop Tires, Massey Harris and Irwin Toys. He worked at Dunlop Tires the longest. John and Anne married in Toronto and 2 of their children were born there. In 1949, John's brother Mike called and advised them of the passing of their father, and asked if John wanted the farm, if not it would be sold. They decided to return. On that farm John planted 54 crops and was proud he never had a crop failure. To supplement the farm income, John started work for the RM of Parkdale. He was known for his smooth roads and dedication to the job. He worked at the RM for 37 years retiring in 1993 at age 65. In 1980 John and Anne built a home on Douglas Avenue in North Battleford. John commuted to work until his retirement and continued 10 more years as he continued to farm until 2003. In 2003 John sold the farm to his neighbour and went into active retirement. He enjoyed playing cards, the Casino, and working on various projects for his kids. John and Anne enjoyed travel during this period, making several trips to Mexico, Dominican Republic, Costa Rico, Bahamas, a cruise and Las Vegas. In 2009 they sold their home and moved to a condo on Amos. ____________________________________________________
