YORK: Albert Volney, June 5, 1922- April 4, 2013. Albert Volney York of Battleford was born June 5, 1922 on the homesteading farm of his parents Volney and Marie near Evesham, Saskatchewan. He passed from his life April 4, 2013 after a brief illness. Albert was predeceased by his parents Volney (1952) and Marie (1961), sister Ada (1926), infant daughter Sylvia (1943), son Edward (1976), and wife Violet (2008). Albert is survived by his brothers Owen (Evelyn) York of Wildwood, Alberta and Everett York of North Battleford, his daughter Virginia (John) Lindgren of Huntley, Illinois, daughter-in-law Wendy York of Calgary, grandchildren Steven (Kristin) York of Calgary, Stuart (Shari) York of North Battleford, Elizabeth (Joey) Zielke of Calgary, Tracy (Erika) Lindgren of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Victoria (Kelly) Hannigan of Calgary, and 14 great-grandchildren. Albert grew up on the farm working with oxen and horses and showed a talent for maintenance of machinery. At the age of 15 Albert spoke at a local church meeting and afterwards many community leaders said to him" You should go to Bible school". In the fall of 1938 Albert became the youngest student admitted to Bethel Bible Institute in Saskatoon. While pastoring at Rosetown, Albert met Violet Wilson and they were married May 8, 1942. In the early year they lived and ministered in Rosetown, Viscount and Biggar. After losing an infant daughter in 1943, son Edward was born in 1944 and daughter Virginia in 1945. In 1948, Albert heard of the revival that had occurred at the Sharon Schools Bible College in North Battleford. After attending some meetings he felt the call of God to follow the moving of the Spirit. Albert and Violet were asked to move to Devlin, Ontario to assist in the Church work there. While there Albert built a sawmill and logged and milled enough lumber to build a home, but they were called back to Saskatchewan on the death of Albert's father. In 1956, Albert built a house in Battleford to be closer to Sharon Schools head office, called Global Missions. He began to travel extensively in North America and overseas to Korea, Japan, the Philippines and the Caribbean. He was known for his booming bass voice and his encouragement of the people to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Children were drawn to him and many young people considered him like a father or grandfather. In 1976, Albert faced a difficult time when son Edward went missing in a light plane in British Columbia. The plane was found a year later after which Albert visited the site with his grandsons. He continued to travel and minister well into his later years and remained an active member of the Global Missions Board into his 80s. He looked forward to the two annual gatherings at Sharon Schools where he would share fellowship with many people he had met in his travels. Albert remained as active as his health would allow and was often seen walking to the post office in Battleford. He stopped regularly at Battleford Furniture where he jokingly referred to himself as a furniture model as he tested out the latest in easy chairs. After Violet's passing in 2008, Albert was lonely but enjoyed visits from family and friends. He moved from his home in 2011 to Villas Pascal which he jokingly referred to as the "village pasture". Funeral Services to be held Saturday April 13, 2:00 PM Sharon Schools Tabernacle, Airport Road North Battleford. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Global Missions Fund for the Poor. ____________________________________________________
