WILLIAM RICHARD TUER Surrounded by family, Bill passed away peacefully on February 17, 2012 in Duncan, British Columbia, after a lengthy battle with dementia. Bill was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan on January 26, 1924. Following high school he started a 39 year distinguished career with the Saskatchewan Department of Highways. At Highways, Bill started with the Bridge Branch, constructed northern winter roads, became the Director of Works and ultimately the Equipment Director for the Province of Saskatchewan. Throughout his career Bill continued his education obtaining 6 different Journeyman Certificates and a Certificate in Administration from the University of Regina. In 1981 Bill retired from Highways to pursue a consulting career that took both he and his wife Beth around the world. They spent 5 years in Indonesia in addition to a brief assignment in Burma. They happily travelled wherever the job took them, enjoying a leisurely and adventurous vacation through Europe on their return to Canada. In 1986, Bill and Beth retired to Nanaimo, British Columbia. Bill is survived by his five children Bill (Cindy), Rob (Caroline), Rick, Heather Gibbons (Kevin) and Sharon Miller (Greg) and one brother Graham (Verna), twelve grandchildren Tania (Jeff Gotts), Lindsay, Kirsten, William, Lauren, Jennifer (Luke Hurst), Michael, Kate, Kristen, Robert and Sarah and five great grandchildren Warner, Braxton, Marissa, Katelyn and Damon. Bill was predeceased by the love of his life Beth in 2007. He is also predeceased by his father, William, mother LizzyBelle, brother Jim and grandson Collin. In his final years Bill was cared for by son Rick and the dedicated staff of the Sunridge Care Facility in Duncan and the family is grateful for all of their efforts and kindness. Prior to his time at Sunridge Bill received loving home care from Beth and son Rick. Bill had an amazing sense of humor that was enjoyed by all who knew him. He was dedicated to his wife of 52 years, his family and all of their activities. Bill was most likely to be found in his garage or shop working on one of his many interesting projects or dreaming up his next one. He also enjoyed spending time with his family at the cottage or playing pool in the basement in Regina or Nanaimo. A Celebration of Life for Bill will be held in Regina at First Presbyterian Church in the spring.
