PICK: Gladys Mary Pick of River Heights Lodge, North Battleford, SK, left peacefully to be with her Lord on September 12, 2011. Gladys was born April 18, 1909, she was 102 years old. Mrs. Pick was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Elijah Ramm; five sisters and one brother; Charles Collins, father of her four children; Lorne Pick, devoted and loving husband of fifty-three years; daughter, Doreen and her husband Carl Beraskin. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Marjorie (Jim) Baker, Bradenton, Florida; Edna (John) Shamess, Vernon, BC and son, Harold (Ivy) Collins, Prince Albert, SK; ten Grandchildren, seventeen Great-Grandchildren and four Great-Great-Grandchildren; several nieces and nephews with families across Canada and the USA. Mrs Pick was born at home to Elijah and Mary Ramm, the third of seven children and raised at Narrow Lake, SK. She attended Narrow Lake School in the Wilkie, SK District. In 1926 at the age of sixteen and less than five feet tall, she and older brother Bram with their father forded the Battle River with twenty-eight head of cattle for the Ramm's planned dairy, north of North Battleford. Mrs Pick was also great with horses and for a time worked with her then husband Charles Collins quieting and caring for the horses at the Calgary Stampede. Gladys was a faithful and tireless worker of the North Battleford Salvatin Army. A very creative worker with the Home League - (a group of women dedicated to handiwork - knitting, embroidery, crocheting and sewing) to be sold earning money for the Salvation Army Outreach Programs. To the delight of her granddaughters she spent many hours sewing matching sets of cloths for them and their dolls. Besides her family, her greatest love was found in her creative writing and hard work much of which is still treasured by family and friends. Having helped her father in his market garden at a young age, her love of gardening continued through the years as she took great pride in her own garden and flowers, often borrowing slips from commercial outlets. Gladys and Lorne enjoyed fishing and camping, and visiting their children and relatives in Florida, British Columbia, Alberta, and Sasktachewan. Gladys will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Battleords Funeral Service. ____________________________________________________
