McLEAN: Florence McLean died April 11, 2011 at her residence, the Battlefords District Care Centre. She was born November 11, 1918, the day World War l ended. She was the younger of two children born to Harold and Jean Wilbee of the Rockhaven district. Florence married James McLean in 1940. After Jim returned from World War ll in 1945, they began farming in the Phippen district. They left the farm in 1963 and moved to North Battleford. Florence worked at River Heights Lodge and the Saskatchewan Hospital before retiring in 1983. Florence was predeceased by her mother (1956), her father (1971), her brother (1999), her husband (1970) her sons Ian (1994) and Donald (2004), granddaughter Cindy Toenjes (2008). She is survived by: her son, Grant , his wife Lorna, and sons D'Arcy and Kirby; son Gordon , his wife, Catherine, and children Terrance and Cristal; son Douglas , his wife Jennifer, and sons Jordan and Tristan; daughter, Beryl Hydukewich and husband Don, and children Daniel and Connie; daughter-in-law Wendy and her children Cheryl, Scott and Laurie; and daughter-in-law Elaine and her daughter Tammy. She is survived by 19 great-grandchildren. Florence was always very interested in horticulture. She served for many years as a leader for the 4-H Garden Club while on the farm. After moving to North Battleford, she became active in the Horticultural Society and was president for a number of years, She wan numerous awards, both locally and provincially, for the roses she grew in her yard. In earlier years, Florence was active in sports, particularly softball and curling. She attended curling events across Canada and in Europe. For many years she was active in square dancing and enjoyed dancing throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed fishing at every opportunity. Family occasions and events were important to Florence. Her family could always count on her encouragement and support. A Celebration of Life was held Friday, April 15, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from "The Garden Chapel"~ Battlefords Funeral Service with Rev. Fred J Tinio, Third Avenue United Church, North Battleford, SK officiating. Shared Memories were given by Scott McLean. Gifts of Music were Organist, Mrs. Kathy Watson, Soloist Robert MacKay sang "Amazing Grace" and hymn was "In The Garden". Memorials are requested to "Hands of Friendship Auxiliary" Battlefords District Care Centre, Box 69, Battleford, Sk. S0M 0E0. Interment took place at City Cemetery, North Battleford, SK. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Battlefords Funeral Service. (446-4200) ____________________________________________________
