MANNIX: In Loving Memory of John Bompas Mannix who was born Oct. 22, 1923 at Prince district, SK and passed away Nov. 16, 2011 at North Battleford, SK. John is survived by his wife of 65 years, Florence Barbara Mannix (nee Bauman); three sons and their families: Brian (Denise), rural North Battleford: Jeff (Dominique): Phaedra, Siobhan, Anwyn & John Ronin, Jodie (Bernard) Childs: Chloe & Caitie; Eric (Jean), Meadow Lake, SK: Tami (Steve) Brissaw: Brandon, Keaton & Gracie, Tracy (Troy) Sack: Jenna & Dylan, Tanya (Mike) O'Hanlon: Emily & Nathan; Pat (Melody), rural North Battleford, SK: Tessa, Jayme & John; sisters: Edna Molden, Medicine Hat, AB and June Sutton, Meota, SK; sister-in-law: Renee May Mannix, Meota, SK; nieces, nephews and their families. John was predeceased by his parents, George "Bertram" & Jonina Holmfridur (Freda) Jonsdoittir (aka Johnson) Mannix; sisters: Helen Vaupel, Runa Jackson, Marion Pearson, Ella Mannix and Norma Mannix; brother, Herbert Mannix; brothers-in-law: Brian Sutton, Len Molden, Harris Vaupel, Roy Jackson & Dallas Pearson. John Mannix grew up in the Prince & Meota area. He joined the RCAF at 18 and went overseas at 19 as air gunner. In 1949 as Flying Officer he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his "fortitude, courage and devotion". He was very proud of his service to his country. John married Florence Bauman of Meadow Lake, SK on Feb. 12, 1946 in Prince Albert. They lived there for 5 years. In 1951 they bought a farm in the McMillan district, rural North Battleford. Here they raised 3 sons, farming and raising Polled Herefords. John was involved with various organizations over the years. In 2005 he was honored with a life-time membership of the Agricultural Society. He loved to visit friends, square dancing, auction sales, cards, watching westerns & travel. When John retired they travelled a lot, finally settling on Yuma as their winter destination. In recent years they no longer went south, so they focused on the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Of course the odd trip to the casino, coffee at the co-op & his regular loto tickets added a little diversion. The Funeral Service was held Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. from "The Garden Chapel" ~ Battlefords Funeral Service, North Battleford, SK with Rev. Peter Norman, St. Paul's Anglican Church officiating. Readings were given by Jeff Mannix and Tessa Mannix and Family Shared Memories by Tracy Sack. Music Ministry was Organist, Mrs. M. Junice Headley, and Soloist Robert MacKay ~ "What A Wonderful World". The Honourary Pallbearers were Jayme Mannix, Tanya O'Hanlon, Tessa Mannix, Tracy Sack & Jodie Childs and Active Pallbearers were Brian Mannix, Eric Mannix, Pat Mannix, Tami Brissaw, Jeff Mannix & John Mannix. Memorials are requested to Heart and Stroke Foundation and Lady Minto Health Care Centre, Edam, SK S0M 0V0. Interment took place at Meota Cemetery, Meota, SK. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Battlefords Funeral Service. 446-4200 ____________________________________________________
