LIU: It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ruijie "Roger" Liu, late of Battleford on June 28, 2011 at the age of 12 years. Roger was born December 30, 1998 in Jingmen, China. He immigrated here with his family in the summer of 2009. He is the son of Dan He and Jianqiao Liu. Roger attended Battleford Central School where he completed grades 6 and 7. Roger was known for his infectious smile and his joy of life. He is described by teachers as a beautiful boy who was kind and thoughtful, with a warm and caring spirit. His work ethic was precise, accurate, and meticulous. His schoolwork was done with the utmost care and attention which always surpassed expectations. Roger was full of stories and life experiences that he shared with classmates and teachers. He was extremely polite and respectful to everyone around him. Roger was well liked by his peers and he had a remarkable ability to find good in everyone. Roger was very proud of his Chinese heritage and loved to talk about his country. He loved being here in Canada and embraced every opportunity that came his way. He experienced numerous activities for the first time such as: downhill skiing, cross country skiing, skating, curling, horseback riding, golfing, sledding, and fishing. Roger was very proud of his community garden which he tended to carefully and enjoyed the opportunity to socialize with others while there. The importance of community was evident in all of the volunteer activities that Roger involved himself in. He was employed with the News Optimist and delivered papers in the town of Battleford. He was a hard working, responsible young man who took great pride in his job. These are just a few of the wonderful attributes that he learned from his loving parents. Roger was a gifted young man who had the ability to translate sadness into joy because he had a sunny heart for everyone. Every day in some small way, Memories of you come our way. Though absent, you are always near, Still missed, loved, always dear. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, June 29 from Chapel of Sallows and McDonald Funeral Home. A fund has been set up at Innovation Credit Union, with donations going toward planting a tree at Battleford Central School, a math scholarship, and other ways to honour Roger's memory.
