KOOPMAN: The death of June Koopman, age 87 years of North Battleford, occurred at Battleford on December 11, 2011. Left to cherish June's memory are her daughters: Debbie & Joy; grandchildren: Jada, Britana, Brandon, Abbie and Sara; great grandchildren: Breya and Easton; numerous nieces and nephews. June was born on February 27, 1924 at Lanigan, SK. June attended Riverview School in North Battleford. After June finished school she started work at the co-op creamery where she candled eggs. June continued to work at the creamery for several years. In 1944 she married Gerry Koopman. They moved to Spiritwood, SK where they entered the hotel business. June and Gerry had seven enjoyable years in Spiritwood prior to moving back to North Battleford, where she for the next 15 years stayed at home as a homemaker. Later June returned to the work world as a guide at the Western Development Museum. June loved every minute of this job. Her next and favorite job was babysitting her grandchildren. June had many hobbies, which included: sewing, baking, canning, playing the piano and echolalia, singing, and doing yard work. June had a strong love for animals, which led her to volunteer for the SPCA where she helped raise money for the animals and the shelter. June moved to the Battlefords District Care Center where she lived for 2 years before passing away. Memorials in June's name can be made to Battlefords District Care Center or Battlefords' Humane Society Animal Shelter.
