HOLLINGSHEAD, Gordon Harvey Passed away peacefully in his sleep at Longfields Manor, Ottawa on October 12, 2012 at 88. Survived by his wife of near 63 years, Margaret Claire (nee Hunt) and patient father of Sandra (Brad) and Harvey (Alma) and adoring grandfather to Andrew and Christopher. Predeceased by his older sisters Margaret, Luella and Esther and his younger sister Carolyn. Survived by his sisters Eva (Frank) Sinkiewicz and Doreen (Earl) Slawson, and his younger brothers Ernest (Donna) and Raymond (Ethel), as well as many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Raised on a homestead near Meath Park, SK, Gordon joined the RCAF in 1942 and was trained as a bomber pilot. He served with the RAF (flying over 40 missions) in Europe and the RCAF in Canada until the end of the war. He then returned to farming, marrying his lifelong partner in 1949. In 1957, Gordon went to work for the Veterans Land Administration, transferring several years later to the Farm Credit Corporation. In 1972, he and his family moved to Barrhaven, where he and his wife continued to live until his death. A memorial service, celebrating his life, will be held at Barrhaven United Church (3013 Jockvale Road) on Saturday, October 20, 2012, beginning at 10:30 AM. A reception will be held afterwards at the church. Internment of his ashes will take place at a later date in the family plot in Henribourg, SK.
